BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Odoo questions, answered in plain language.
What to ask before you choose a plan, approve a proposal or move your team onto a new system.
What does an Odoo implementation provider do?
The scope can include requirement analysis, configuration, migration, testing, training and go-live support. Development and integrations may be added where approved. Confirm actual deliverables, exclusions and responsibilities in the proposal.
Should we start with consultation or implementation?
Choose consultation when the process, modules or scope are unclear. Start implementation once the requirements, first phase and responsibilities are sufficiently defined to plan and price the work.
Can we use Odoo for a small UAE business?
A smaller business can consider a limited rollout built around one complete workflow. The useful question is whether the setup and ongoing cost suit your operation, user availability and reporting needs.
Does the domain name mean this is an official Odoo partner?
No. A domain name is not evidence of partner status. Check the actual delivery company on the official Odoo partner directory and confirm the company named in your proposal.
How should we compare two Odoo quotations?
Use the same requirements list and compare included processes, migration, training, testing, hosting, subscriptions and support. Ask each provider to state assumptions, exclusions and the price of approved extra work.
Can we keep using our current accounts software?
Discuss which system will own each record and whether a temporary transition or ongoing connection is required. Two live systems maintaining the same balances can create reconciliation work unless ownership and the cut-off are clear.
Do all apps require development?
No. Many needs can be addressed through standard configuration. Review the business reason for each gap before commissioning Studio changes, third-party apps or custom modules.
How is customisation different from integration?
Customisation changes behaviour within Odoo. Integration exchanges records with another application. A project may need both, but their scope, testing and maintenance should be described separately.
Can we move from an older Odoo version?
Start with a review of version, edition, custom modules and hosting. The plan should include compatibility work, a trial migration, reconciliation and acceptance testing before the final cutover.
Will our entire transaction history move?
Only if it is agreed, feasible and tested. Some businesses move opening balances and active records while retaining an accessible archive. Decide this with the responsible finance and record-retention advisers.
Can Odoo support UAE finance or payroll requirements?
Assess the exact requirement, version, localisation and any supporting app. The responsible finance or payroll adviser must validate the setup and outputs. A generic software claim is not a substitute for checking your business obligations.
Can we have Arabic documents?
Specify which documents and fields need Arabic, whether bilingual layouts are required and who supplies and checks the translations. Test the printed or exported result with your actual document requirements.
Does Odoo include hosting?
It depends on the chosen deployment and subscription. Odoo Online, Odoo.sh and self-hosting have different capabilities and responsibilities. Confirm capacity, backup, access and all separate charges in writing.
Who owns the data and administrator accounts?
Confirm client ownership and access in the agreement. Identify the database administrator, subscription owner, source repository and hosting account, with an agreed handover and exit process.
Is a fixed go-live date possible?
A project can have a planned date, but the dependencies must be visible. Clean data, user testing, integrations and approvals affect readiness. Agree the conditions for delaying cutover if essential checks have not passed.
What should support include?
The agreement should define coverage, service hours, priorities, acknowledgement targets, escalation, included effort and exclusions. Hosting, upgrades and new development should not be assumed to be included.
Where do we start if an existing project is stuck?
Describe the blocked business activities, current scope, unresolved issues and available source and environment access. A review can establish the remaining work and ownership before a recovery plan is proposed.
